ESSMANN safety and protection systems for skylight domes

ESSMANN skylight domes can be equipped with additional multi safety systems. These include HDS protection that takes the form of a perforated aluminium sheet and provides hail, fall-through and sun protection,
plus the fall arrest safety console (FAS) that can be directly mounted onto a skylight base to prevent people from falling and to act as a restraining system.

ESSMANN fall-through protection
prevents people and large objects from falling through roof openings. This product, which has been tested by the German trade association, is especially important for walk-on flat roofs, terraces and for ensuring safety when performing work on roofs. The fall-through protection consists of a galvanised protective grate that can be used with all rectangular and square ESSMANN skylight domes and is available in three versions. Installation of the protective grate will not impair the opening function of the ESSMANN skylight domes for ventilation or smoke extraction purposes. The fall-through protection can be colour-coated by the customer.

ESSMANN fall-through protection is available in three versions: lasered (type L), welded (type G) or for retrofitting (type K).

ESSMANN burglary and fall-through protection systems
consist of a galvanised steel frame supplied in various heights, depending on the thickness of the heat insulation used. Solid steel rods are inserted into the frame at equally spaced intervals. This design makes it difficult for burglars to enter the building via the roof and the skylight dome. If the ESSMANN burglary and fall-through protection is assembled whilst laying trapezoidal sheet metal, then work safety is also guaranteed when performing work on the roof. If the longitudinal beam is positioned accordingly by the customer, the burglary and fall-through protection can also act as a crossbeam.

As the burglary and fall-through protection is mounted above the roof opening, it also provides an important fire protection function in accordance with DIN 18234, due to the incorporation of heat insulation in the steel frame. Since this eliminates the need to lay additional plank bases, work can be carried out on the roof quickly and cost-effectively.

The ESSMANN HDS protection system
consists of a diamond-shaped, perforated aluminium sheet (natural aluminium, blank), that is screwed onto the arcade rooflight kerb frame, with a gap between the sheet and the skylight dome glazing.

The ESSMANN HDS system provides optimum

H = Hagelschutz (hail protection),
D = Durchsturzsicherheit (fall-through protection) and
S = Sonnenschutz (sun protection).

It also protects skylight domes from vandalism. The system provides maximum fall-through protection not just during the installation phase but until the warranty expires and beyond that, if regular maintenance is performed. Furthermore, skylight domes are provided with lasting protection against hail and the sun protection feature ensures that the sales rooms below benefit from a pleasant climate."

The ESSMANN fall arrest safety console (FAS)
is an anchor point for fastening and securing no more than two people to ESSMANN skylight bases made of PVC, GRP and metal. It serves as a fall arrest and/or restraining system. The fall arrest safety console complies with class A requirements as a fall arrest safety system according to DIN EN 795 and DIN EN 362 EC type examination certificate, and is certified by the German trade association.

The anchor point consists of a stainless steel console and can be attached to type AK ESSMANN skylight bases made of PVC with installation heights of 15 cm and 30 cm. The FAS can be attached to type AK skylight bases made of GRP with installation heights of 30 cm and 50 cm, and to type RAK GRP bases with an installation height of 30 cm. For type AK skylight bases made of metal, the FAS can be attached to bases with installation heights of 30 cm, 40 cm and 50 cm. Prior consultation with the factory will be required if ESSMANN skylight bases are to be retrofitted with an FAS console by the customer.

The ESSMANN darkening system
(EDS) is integrated into the ESSMANN skylight dome type 810 using a special profile system. It is used in areas that need both daylight and a means of darkening rooms for presentations, projections, etc. These include not only schools, conference rooms and exhibition areas, but also industrial facilities.

ESSMANN darkening system for fixed or ventable skylight domes:
The ESSMANN darkening system is made of a highly UV-resistant, light-proof fibre glass fabric and a special aluminium profile system, into which all the mechanical components are integrated. The fibre glass fabric is black on the inner side while the reverse side is coated with a heat-reflecting, aluminium-pigmented layer. The fibre glass fabric complies with European fire protection regulations. The profile system is coated in the same colour as the skylight dome, RAL 9010. Use of the darkening system will not impair the ventilation function of the skylight dome, nor stop it being used in conjunction with geometric smoke extraction systems (24 V servomotor opener).

ESSMANN darkening system for smoke and heat extraction systems type F6-D:
The ESSMANN darkening system for SHE type F6-D is suitable for use with natural smoke extraction systems (NSE) in the industrial sector. This arched darkening system is fitted with a pulling device due to the fact that the smoke and heat extraction system is integrated into the skylight dome. Residual incident light of around 3% cannot be excluded by nature of the system's design. The profile system and fibre glass fabric are identical to the versions used for fixed or ventable skylight domes.

ESSMANN insect protection meshes
can be installed in ventable skylight domes and in skylight domes with smoke and heat extraction systems type F6-D. They are tailored specifically to the skylight dome in question, so the size, version and method of opening of the skylight dome must be indicated if the mesh is to be retrofitted. This product can be used in the food and beverage industry, industrial kitchens, laboratories/institutes, facilities manufacturing electronic and optical components, and anywhere else where large particles of dirt and insects must be prevented from getting into a room through open skylight domes.

ESSMANN insect protection meshes for ventable skylight domes:
A special gauze fabric is tightly encased in a white-coated aluminium frame. The compact frame is screwed onto the skylight base of the skylight dome. Both the ESSMANN servomotor opener and the lifting or spindle opener are also tightly integrated into the insect protection mesh frame. The mesh size of just 1 mm x 1 mm prevents any insects, large particles of dirt or leaves from entering through the open skylight dome. Once installed, the gauze fabric can be easily cleaned from the roof.

ESSMANN insect protection meshes for skylight domes with smoke and heat extraction systems type F6-D:

This version differs from the design for ventable skylight domes in that the insect protection mesh is divided into three zones. The left and right zones are raised together with the skylight dome when the smoke and heat extraction system (SHE) is activated. The aerodynamically effective extraction value (Aa value) of the skylight dome changes only slightly. The insect protection mesh for SHEs is approved in accordance with DIN EN 12101-2. The ventilation function of the skylight dome is not impaired in any way. The gauze is also available in stainless steel.
