ESSMANN natural aeration and ventilation

Natural, or thermal, ventilation is based on the law of physics that states that hot, stale air rises. Once it has risen, it is allowed to escape outside through large, open ventilators. This is still possible even if it is raining, as the equipment can be fitted with an additional all-weather feature. If this feature is included and bad weather (rain) occurs, the internal rain flaps take care of ventilation. Pneumatic or electric drives are available (24 V or 230 V) and the equipment is controlled via a ventilation control box. Just as with ESSMANN skylight domes and arcade rooflights, the ventilators too are made of tried-and-tested, durable materials: extruded aluminium sections and polycarbonate panels or stainless steel.

ESSMANN finned ventilators
are sturdy, stable and reliable. They are extremely easy to install, are suitable for glass and wall fitting and can be installed on flat roofs with a slope of just 3°.

ESSMANN finned ventilators basically consist of a 2 mm thick corrosion-resistant aluminium structure with welded edges that forms a frame for incorporating the various fin designs. Sealing brushes on the longitudinal sides reduce leakage losses. The fins are connected to cast aluminium side panels free of strain and a push rod is used to open and close them. Side bearings ensure that the fins can move properly and eliminate the need for borders, thus providing a larger light area and reducing thermal bridges. The side panels have double bearings with aluminium screw bolts in nylon bushes, which means that individual fins can be replaced if repairs become necessary. The lower edge of the fins is fitted with an EPDM elastic seal.

Three types of fins are available for optimum customisation to the installation conditions in question: single and double-skinned aluminium fins, and double-skinned polycarbonate fins.

ESSMANN finned ventilators are available in any size requested/required and are also suitable for installation in facades. They comply with the requirements of DIN EN 12101-2 and are therefore approved as SHE systems.

ESSMANN finned ventilators can also be equipped with a bad weather function. The clever design of the internal, weather-protected ventilation flaps ensures that natural ventilation can be achieved, even in rain and snow, by extracting stale air from the room.

ESSMANN lamella i and ih
The ESSMANN lamellae are passive ventilation appliances for installation in flat roofs and on façades. The systems provide aeration and ventilation for industrial, commercial and administrative buildings, together with natural smoke extraction.

ESSMANN lamellae are available in the following versions:
ih (insulation high)
i (insulation)

ESSMANN lamellae consist of an aluminium base frame with electrically or pneumatically adjustable lamellae and a mounting flange to suit the on-site structure; models are available in polycarbonate (PC), glass or aluminium.

The lamellae lie on the base frame and can be positioned at an opening angle of up to 90 degrees for optimum air supply and extraction. This makes the ESSMANN lamellae equally suitable for use as a form of natural ventilation, and for natural smoke and heat extraction.

The drive and mechanical elements are positioned beneath the lamellae and optimally protected against the effects of the weather and from mechanical damage. And long-lasting functional reliability is ensured even at high snow and wind loads thanks to the high-quality stainless steel fittings.
The aluminium twin-wall profiles of the base frame and the lamellae result in optimum stability and resistance to external influences. Thanks to the slim line design, the lamellae can be integrated attractively into any building structure.

ESSMANNdouble flaps
are ideal for complying with precautionary fire prevention requirements, for daily aeration and ventilation, and for illuminating rooms with daylight.

The longitudinal sides of the flaps open to an angle of more than 90°, exposing the whole cross-section for ventilation. The air replacement performance of this design is superb. The flaps slope towards the central rain gutter in order to keep them clean and drain water away.

The ESSMANN double flap also complies with the DIN EN 12101-2 precautionary fire prevention requirements for a smoke and heat extraction system. The double flap comes complete with an open/close control mechanism as standard. 24 V motors can also be installed to use ESSMANN double flaps for geometric smoke extraction.

An optional transparent pane is available for ESSMANN double flaps, making them ideal for lighting buildings. The optional single-blade version is flat, making it ideal for installation in glass structures, saddleback roofs and sheds.
In addition to polycarbonate, the panes are also available in aluminium or a combination of aluminium, steel and insulation to meet strict soundproofing requirements, depending on the building conditions in question.

ESSMANN all-weather double flaps
have been specially developed to provide natural aeration and ventilation, and fire ventilation. The combination of a double flap and rainproof side flap results in outstanding ventilation performance, even in extreme conditions.

This is especially the case in heat-intensive premises where normal thermal ventilation is usually not sufficient, as the double flaps have to be closed during rain, fog or snow. The rainproof inner flaps of ESSMANN all-weather double flaps provide heavy-duty ventilation, making them the ideal solution to this problem. A rain sensor system closes the outer flaps and the rainproof inner flaps are opened when it starts to rain. Deflectors mounted on the outside further increase the volume of discharged air. Four different heights of inner flap can be used, depending on the internal thermal load.

Furthermore, the all-weather double flap complies with the DIN-EN 12101-2 precautionary fire prevention requirements for a smoke and heat extraction system. The equipment comes complete with an open/close control mechanism as standard. 24 V motors can also be installed to use ESSMANN all-weather double flaps for geometric smoke extraction.

An optional transparent pane is available for ESSMANN all-weather double flaps, making them ideal for lighting buildings. In addition to polycarbonate, the panes are also available in aluminium or a combination of aluminium, steel and insulation to meet strict soundproofing requirements, depending on the conditions in question. The solid design structure made of high-quality materials such as aluminium AlMg3, stainless steel and flame-retardant plastic, guarantees a long service life and good reliability.

ESSMANN single flaps
provide effective ventilation by utilising the thermals that are present in every building. As per the law of physics, hot, stale air rises and is then transported outside through the large open flap. The flap opens to an angle of more than 90°, exposing the whole cross-section for ventilation. The air replacement performance of this design is superb. The single-blade flap ventilator is flat, making it ideal for installation in glass structures, saddleback roofs, saddle rooflights and sheds. The single flap also complies with the DIN EN 12101-2 precautionary fire prevention requirements for a smoke and heat extraction system.

It comes complete with an open/close control mechanism as standard. 24 V motors can also be installed to use ESSMANN single flaps for geometric smoke extraction. An optional transparent pane is available for ESSMANN single flaps, making them ideal for lighting buildings.

ESSMANN large-surface ventilators
are designed for daily aeration and ventilation. The whole available ventilation cross-section can be fully utilised, whatever the weather, thanks to two regulating flaps positioned on the longitudinal sides of the ventilator. The special arrangement of the regulating flaps causes the air to be deflected, so the ventilator provides its own soundproofing to a large extent. This soundproofing effect can be improved by integrating additional sound traps.

An aluminium cover shaped like a saddleback roof forms the top part of the ESSMANN large-surface ventilator. The pre-defined slope ensures that rain water is drained off easily.
